Kettering University would like to congratulate you on your student's acceptance into one  of our Study Abroad programs! We understand that parents, guardians, and friends of the  student play an important role in a student's decision to study abroad. We hope that this experience encourages independent spirit, intellectual and personal growth, and provides the skill-sets needed to prepare them to enter a globalized workforce. Deciding to send your student overseas is a big decision, but it offers the student a unique opportunity to learn in another culture and environment while still being secure within a host institution that allows the transfer of credit to a Kettering degree.

Students studying in Germany participate in German language courses while overseas, which provides great assistance to students as they navigate everyday living in a new country. Additionally, students have a great support system in place through the International Offices at our partner institutions!

We hope to provide you with the information you need to best support your student before, during, and after their time abroad. The OIP is also available to answer you individual questions along the way.

Pre-departure
To enhance the students study abroad experience, all students are required to attend several pre-departure orientation sessions. These sessions are intended to prepare students for a variety of new experiences while abroad and discuss general information as well as program specific information. If a pre-scheduled academic event prevents the student from attending, or if the student is on co-op term and unable to make the sessions, the student must notify the Director of the Office of International Programs in advance to schedule a make-up session.

While abroad
While your student is overseas, we are committed to providing students with assistance and guidance during their stay. Your student will attend a mandatory orientation at the host institution upon arrival.  Host institutions are a great resource for students, and they provide guidance in the following areas:
  • Campus and university life
  • Student club and activites
  • University procedures and general academics
  • Banking options and advise
  • Internet/phone availability and options
  • Medical facilities and services
  • Tours of town and local points of interest
  • Immigration questions
